Together with the new town hall, the residential and commercial building realised by Mettler Entwickler AG defines Rathausplatz and signals the gateway to the old town and Marktgasse in Altstätten in impressive fashion.
The Freihof site is in an optimum location on the eastern edge of the historic old town and in the immediate vicinity of Altstätten’s new railway station square.
Living and working combined
The ground floor and semi-basement of the new commercial building are home to versatile and adaptable retail spaces, ideal for trade, catering and services. The first two floors offer spacious areas, perfect for offices and service companies. Modern, high-specification apartments have been created on the floors above. All retail and service floors are easily accessible via the public inner courtyard, which connects Rathausplatz with Churerstrasse. The communal underground car park, which the building shares with the town hall, is accessed via Ringgasse.

The distinctive exterior features a rear-ventilated curtain-wall exposed concrete façade, while the inner courtyard façades are fitted with rendered external thermal insulation. Built in accordance with the Minergie standard, the commercial spaces offer ventilation and air conditioning options, while the apartments are equipped with controlled ventilation.
